Gulf Coast Enzianer Schuhplattler Kicks Off a New Season
Summer break is officially over, and the Gulf Coast Enzianer Schuhplattler rang in the new season with its first practice — combined with a welcome back party to celebrate reuniting after months apart.
It was wonderful to see everyone back together, and the group was happy to welcome two new prospective members who came out to see what the club is all about.
Installing the 2026–2027 Officers
The evening included a short ceremony to install the club's officers for the 2026–2027 term. The lineup is largely familiar, with one new face: Kelly Knox, who is stepping into the role of Inventarwart (inventory manager).
Honoring Years of Dedication
The group also paused to recognize three members with an Ehrenurkunde (certificate of honor), celebrating their many years of membership and service to Gulf Coast Enzianer:
– Gabriele "Gaby" Schlierf — everybody's favorite Oma, who has served as both Trachtenmutter* (costume mother) and Buchprüfer (auditor) since 2008
– George White — 25 years of membership
– Ilse Kearney (not pictured) — 25 years of membership
Their long-standing dedication has helped shape the group into what it is today.
Dancing, Eating, and Catching Up
True to Enzianer tradition, the night was filled with dancing, good food, and plenty of catching up after the summer away. Eric also treated everyone to a showing of the club Drehorgel (barrel organ), adding a fun bit of old-world charm to the celebration. It was the perfect way to reconnect as a group and step into the new season together.
